1. Introduction
Kiganix ("we", "us", or "our") respects the privacy of users of Rimeholt (the "App"), our screenshot and image annotation tool. This Privacy Policy ("Policy") explains what information the App collects, how it is used, and how it is protected.
By downloading, installing, or using the App, you agree to this Policy. If you do not agree to this Policy, please do not use the App.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Automatically Collected Information (Crash Reports)
In release builds of the App, we automatically collect and transmit the following information only when the App crashes (terminates abnormally), solely for the purpose of improving App quality.
| Information Collected | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Operating system version | To identify the environment where the issue occurred |
| Device model name (e.g., MacBook Pro) | To identify hardware-specific issues |
| Stack trace at the time of crash | To identify the location of the bug |
| App version number | To identify which version needs a fix |
Information we do NOT collect:
- Image data or screenshot content
- Content of files you annotate
- File paths or file names
- Name, email address, or other personally identifiable information (PII)
- Clipboard contents
- Keystrokes or input content
Crash reports are collected using the third-party service Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.) — see Section 5. The App is configured with send_default_pii=false, which disables automatic transmission of personally identifiable information.
2.2 Locally Stored Information (App Settings)
The App stores your preferences exclusively on your device. No settings data is sent to our servers.
Examples of stored settings:
- Theme preference (Light / Dark / System)
- Export format preference (PNG / JPEG)
- Keyboard shortcut configuration
- Default save folder (stored as a security-scoped bookmark issued by the OS, not as a file path)
Settings data is stored in device-local storage (macOS: within ~/Library/Containers/) and is deleted when you uninstall the App.
2.3 Information We Do Not Collect
The App does not collect:
- Name, email address, phone number, or other personal identifiers
- Location data
- Account credentials (the App has no account or login system)
- Contacts, calendar entries, or other system data
- Browsing history or usage analytics (no analytics SDK is included)
- Advertising identifiers (IDFA, GAID, etc.)
3. How We Use Information
We use collected information solely for the following purposes:
- App quality improvement: Analyzing crash reports to fix bugs and improve App stability.
- Settings restoration: Restoring your preferences when the App is reopened (local only).
We do not use collected information for marketing, advertising, or any purpose other than those listed above.
4. Data Storage and Protection
4.1 Local Data
Settings data stored on your device is protected by the operating system's App Sandbox. Access by other applications is blocked by the OS.
4.2 Crash Report Data
Crash reports are transmitted to and stored on Sentry's servers. In accordance with Sentry's retention policy, this data is typically deleted after 90 days. For details, please refer to Sentry's Privacy Policy at https://sentry.io/privacy/.
We limit access to crash report data on Sentry to personnel involved in App development.
5. Third-Party Services
5.1 Sentry (Crash Reporting)
Release builds of the App use Sentry (Functional Software, Inc., USA) for crash report collection.
- Purpose: Collection and analysis of crash information to improve App stability
- Transmission timing: Only when the App crashes — not during normal use
- Data transmitted: Only the information described in Section 2.1
- Sentry's location: United States (data may be processed on US servers)
- Sentry Privacy Policy: https://sentry.io/privacy/
- Sentry Terms of Service: https://sentry.io/terms/
5.2 Platform Billing (Per Distribution Channel)
In-app subscription purchases are processed through each platform's billing system:
- Mac App Store: Apple Inc.'s StoreKit (https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/)
- Steam: Valve Corporation's Steamworks (https://store.steampowered.com/privacy_agreement/)
Purchase and payment information is managed by each platform. The App does not receive, process, or retain your payment information or billing data.
6. Screen Capture Feature
The App includes a screen capture feature (macOS). With respect to this feature:
- Captures are executed only when explicitly initiated by the user
- Captured image data is processed solely in device memory
- Image data is never sent to our servers or any third party
- Images are saved only when the user explicitly performs an "Export" action, and only to the location the user designates
On macOS, the Screen Recording permission is required to use the capture feature. You can review and change this permission in System Settings.
7. Children's Privacy (COPPA)
The App is not directed at children under 13 years of age, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided personal information, we will take steps to delete such information promptly.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child may have provided personal information through the App, please contact us at [email protected].
8. Your Rights
You have the following rights regarding information collected by the App:
8.1 Access and Deletion
- Local settings data: You can reset or clear settings from within the App's settings screen. Uninstalling the App will remove all locally stored data.
- Crash report data: Crash reports do not contain personally identifiable information. If you wish to request deletion, please contact us at [email protected].
8.2 Opting Out of Crash Reporting
If you do not wish to send crash reports, you may disable this feature from within the App's settings screen (to be implemented in a future version). In the current version, you may restrict this at the network level using macOS firewall settings or similar tools.
8.3 Users in the European Economic Area (EEA) and United Kingdom
If you are located in the EEA or UK, you have the following rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR):
- Right to access your personal data
- Right to rectification of inaccurate personal data
- Right to erasure ("right to be forgotten")
- Right to restriction of processing
- Right to data portability
- Right to object to processing
To exercise these rights, please contact us at [email protected].
8.4 California Residents (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, you have the following rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA):
- Right to Know: You may request disclosure of personal information we collect, use, and disclose.
- Right to Delete: You may request deletion of personal information we have collected.
- Right to Opt-Out of Sale: We do not sell personal information.
- Right to Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
Given that the App collects only limited technical data (crash reports) and no personally identifiable information, most CCPA rights will result in confirmation that no PII is held. To make a request, contact [email protected].
9. International Data Transfers
Crash reports may be transferred to and stored on Sentry's servers located in the United States. The US has different data protection laws from those in Japan, the European Union, and other jurisdictions. Sentry implements appropriate safeguards, including Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs), for such transfers. For details, refer to Sentry's Privacy Policy at https://sentry.io/privacy/.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time in response to changes in law, our services, or other circumstances. When material changes are made, we will notify you through the following means:
- In-app notification
- Updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this Policy
- Announcement on our website (rimeholt.com)
Your continued use of the App after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy. We encourage you to review this Policy periodically.
